New Course Addresses Critical Gap in Agriculture by Focusing on 'Human Skills' for People in Farming
While technical training in agriculture is widespread, the crucial ‘human skills’ needed to lead a modern farm business are often overlooked. Today, EmpowerAg Ltd. addresses this industry-wide gap with the launch of the GRIP Course, a program designed to invest in farmers as people and leaders.
Supported by the Frank Parkinson Agricultural Trust, the GRIP course is built on the premise that the success and sustainability of a farm business is fundamentally tied to the people who run it. It moves away from conventional training to focus on the personal development essential for navigating the complex relationships and decisions involved in farming today.
The program is designed to empower farmers from the inside out. It first helps participants to know themselves, better understanding their core values and personal drivers. From this foundation of self-awareness, they are guided to look honestly at the areas of their life and business they want to change. Crucially, the course then provides the tools for communication and leadership needed to bring others, including family members and staff, along with them on that journey of change.
"For too long, we've assumed that the 'human skills' needed for mental wellness and good relationships come naturally to people, but that's simply not the case," said Amy Hughes, founder of EmpowerAg Ltd. "The pressures on farmers have never been greater, and technical skill alone isn't enough. The GRIP course was created to fill that gap. It’s about investing in the person at the heart of the business, giving them the confidence and the skills to not only envision a better future but to lead their team and family to build it together."
